Cloud computing is quickly becoming a popular option for businesses that wish to streamline operations, reduce costs, and, most importantly, be more flexible.

Are you swayed by the idea that cloud services are better for the environment? For example, could the need to do your bit 'cloud' your decision-making?

Sorry. I know it's a terrible pun.

Cloud services indeed have environmental benefits when compared to using your servers. These include reduced energy consumption and, as a result, a smaller carbon footprint.

Yet it would be best if you didn't view the cloud as a "green solution" without fully understanding the environmental impact.

One consideration of using cloud services is the location of your data and where the data centers/servers are housed. In addition, some providers have committed to using renewable energy, but it's not guaranteed. Therefore, it is essential to research and chooses a cloud provider that sources renewable energy and uses energy storage whenever possible.

When considering switching to the cloud, many other benefits exist besides environmental sustainability. These include improved data security, improved collaboration, and scalability as your business grows.

Another critical advantage of cloud computing is data backup and recovery.

With the data stored in the cloud, when properly managed, you effectively minimize the risk of data loss due to hardware failure, damage, or theft. In addition, it means that your data is safe in a fire or natural disaster and can be quickly recovered.

Cloud computing enables better collaboration and communication, helping your team (internet and external) to work together more quickly and efficiently, no matter where they're working from. This alone can increase productivity and reduce costs compared to maintaining traditional on-site systems.

Finally, cloud services provide scalability as you grow (or downsize), with the ability to increase/decrease storage and processing power as needed.

The benefits of cloud computing can be huge. It's one reason so many businesses have ditched their in-house servers in favor of the cloud.

When considering migrating, get in touch – we can discuss the process, what happens, and Where To Start.
