No Really... Your business may be losing hundreds of hours to spam yearly

Spam emails. Everyone gets them, and yes, everyone hates them.

It’s not just the time it takes to clear spam from your inbox. Having to do that is a natural productivity killer, too.

A recent report found that each of your employees could lose up to 80 hours per year thanks to processing and deleting spam emails.

That’s a LOT of lost productivity at your expense.

Recent findings say between 45% and 85% of your daily emails are spam. That includes the malicious emails and those hoping to infect you with malware or catch you in a phishing scheme.

Although we don’t all receive the same number of emails daily, the hours lost to filtering them out adds up.

If just one of your employees gets 30 external emails daily, they will receive around 30 spam emails weekly. So that would be around 5 hours each year wasted on sorting through and deleting them.

An employee who gets up to 60 emails daily would be an average of 11 hours a year wasted.

And for someone who gets more than 100 emails daily, you’re looking at around 80 hours of productivity lost to filtering emails each year.

Now add that up for each one of your staff, and you could be looking at a huge number.

Not only that, but a large proportion of these emails may contain phishing attempts (that’s where the sender wants you to take an action that will give them access to your data). It can be a significant risk to your data security and livelihood too.

Of course, you can do a few things to reduce the time spent dealing with spam emails. The first is to use the spam and junk email filters available from your email service.

You may also consider bringing in dedicated anti-spam and anti-phishing tools and increase your efforts on what to look for.

You can make your people aware of the risks of spam, how to spot spam emails, and the best way to deal with it to save time and minimize the risk of malware and a data breach.
